Ati Yoga (Tib: Dzogchen), literally meaning the ‘utmost yoga,’ is the pinnacle of Buddhist Vajrayana practice. It is the most simple, direct, and profound path to reveal the primordial wisdom which is one’s basic nature.

In the Yuthok Nyingthig cycle of spiritual teachings the chapter on Ati Yoga is called ‘The Self-Liberation of Samsara-Nirvana’. It is the secret path for realizing the final rainbow body, the expression of the complete transformation and control over the elements of matter, energy, and mind.

In this second in a series of special Ati Yoga teachings at Sorig Khang Portland, Dr Nida will teach the Ati Yoga preliminary practices and aspects of trekchod, 'Cutting Through Hardness' in the context of a four day non-residential practice-focussed urban retreat.

Teachings will be based on Dr Nida's book, Mirror of Light: A Commentary on Yuthok's Ati Yoga, Volume One and the forthcoming Weapon of Light: Introduction to Ati Yoga Meditation, available from SKY Press

Pre-registration for this course is required. Space is limited.

In order to attend this retreat, one must have completed a seven day Yuthok Nyingthig Ngondro retreat (alone or in a group). Completion of the ngondro practices in a different lineage also fulfills this pre-requisite.

Please e-mail info@sorigkhangportland.org with any questions.

Sowa Rigpa (Tib. གསོ་བ་རིག་པ་), the ‘Science of Healing’, is the medical system of Tibet and other Himalayan regions including Bhutan, Nepal, Ladakh, Sikkim, and Mongolia. It is one of the oldest healing traditions in existence, yet it remains fully alive and intact even today. Incorporated elements from the foreign medical systems of India, China, and Ancient Greece it retains its own distinctly Himalayan character, shaped by both Buddhist and pre-Buddhist thought. Sowa Rigpa is a truly holistic system of medicine that approaches the total health of the individual from the perspective of physical body, energy, and mind and has the fourfold aim of preventing illness, curing illness, extending life, and cultivating happiness.

Introduction to Tibetan Nejang Healing Yoga

  • New Renaissance Bookshop

YOGA CLASS WITH CHRISTIANA POLITES

Nejang (Tib. གནས་སྦྱངས་) is a Tibetan healing yoga practice that literally means ‘cleaning the energy sites of the body.’ It consists of simple breath work, physical exercises, and self-massage designed to improve the function of the sense organs and inner organs, balance the internal energy, open the channels, and relax the mind. It has roots in the Tibetan Buddhist Kalachakra tradition and has been prescribed to patients by Tibetan physicians for centuries.

In this course, we will discuss the fundamentals of Tibetan Medicine, including the channels and energies of the subtle body, and explore the key points of posture and breath used in Nejang. We will then practice several of the 24 Nejang exercises and explore their therapeutic and diagnostic indications.

$30, Registration at New Renaissance Bookshop

Christiana Polites, founder of Yangchenma Healing Arts and SKY Press, is a student of both Traditional Tibetan Medicine and Classical Chinese Medicine and a practitioner of Tibetan Vajrayana Buddhism. She has trained extensively in the healing and spiritual sciences of Tibet under the guidance of her teacher Dr. Nida Chenagtsang, a doctor and yogi from Amdo, Tibet and founder of Sorig Khang International (formerly the International Academy of Traditional Tibetan Medicine).

The first of four Guru Yoga practices in the Yuthok Nyingthig tradition, this practice deeply connects us to the blessings of Yuthok Yonten Gonpo.

This one day practice intensive combines instruction with sessions of guided group practice and is designed to familiarize students with this meditation and prepare those who would like do the practice as a traditional seven day retreat, the next step in the Yuthok lineage of practice after the Ngondro preliminaries.

"If the supreme teaching of the Guru Sadhana Dharma Cycle of the Yuthok Nyingthig did not have the blessing of simultaneous practice and accomplishment, then the people of the degenerate age, entangled in worldly desire and weak in determination for long retreats would not be able to practice. However, if this, the accomplishment of my life-force itself, is practiced without distraction by a faithful person for seven days, then I vow that I shall reveal well my face to him, and I shall grant them teachings and closely instruct them." - Yuthok Yonten Gonpo, 12th C
